Animal Care Technician I – North Chicago, IL (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $21–$22/hr
Duration: 6 Months
Location: North Chicago, IL (AP13A – 1 N Waukegan Road)
Schedule:

Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Every 3rd weekend (Sat/Sun) after training

Must be flexible for weekends & holidays
Job Summary
We are seeking an Animal Care Technician I to support daily operations within a vivarium/animal care facility. This role involves maintaining animal environments, supporting research activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and animal welfare standards.
Key Responsibilities

Perform daily husbandry tasks including cage cleaning, sanitation, and stocking supplies

Handle and care for research animals following SOPs and regulatory guidelines

Assist with receiving and housing animals

Maintain clean and organized vivarium and support areas

Document tasks accurately (written & electronic systems)

Operate lab equipment such as carts, hoses, and cages

Observe animal conditions and report any concerns
-
Support team operations in a fast-paced, regulated environment
Required Skills

Qualifications

High School Diploma required

2+ years of experience (animal care preferred)

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing, walking, bending, etc.)

Basic computer skills (email, training modules, documentation)

Ability to work in compliance with USDA and regulatory standards
Nice to Have

AALAS Certification

Previous experience in animal care environments (Petco, PetSmart, veterinary clinics, labs, etc.)
