Job Description:
--The individual will be a member of a project team that develops and commercializes new medical diagnostic automated systems for slide based staining.
--The individual understands implications of the work and makes recommendations for solutions as well as assist in determining methods and procedures on new assignments.
--Engineering technicians use the principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, and/or field service.
--Engineering Technicians support engineering activities such as design, assembly, test, troubleshooting, modification and fabrication of prototype electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Determines methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
• Construction, test and check-out of systems and equipment.
• Perform repairs by performing operational tests and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
• Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform assembly, testing, troubleshooting, modification and fabrication functions.
• Monitor work to ensure quality and continuously promote Quality First Time.
• Work as an effective departmental or cross-functional team member.
• Adhere to Ventana Medical Systems procedures and processes.
• Operates drills, saws, dremmel or other hand tools to fabricate or modify parts, such as sheet metal or test fixtures.
• Build or set up equipment, prepare and conduct experiments, collect data, calculate or record results, and help engineers or scientists in other ways, such as making prototype versions of newly designed equipment.
• Ensure compliance of calibration for the different tools maintained in the Development Engineering laboratories.
• Support Engineering Technicians in the trouble-shooting efforts as required.
• Coordinate activities to return system or equipment to working operation.
• Work on corrective action solutions to eliminate re-occurrence of failures.
• Combines knowledge of mechanical engineering technology with knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits to layout, build, test, trouble-shoot, repair and modify developmental and production electronic
components, parts, equipment and systems.
• Ability to use manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.
• Recommend changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
• Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.
• Searches and review literature, specifications and standards for relevance to assigned tasks.
• Makes plans, executes and revises as needed to accomplish assigned tasks to meet expectations of quality and time.
• Assumes responsibilities for team lead job functions if necessary. Responsible for team lead job functions.
• Responsible for maintaining the Development Engineering laboratories to be safe and efficient using 5S methodologies.
• Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of laboratory, materials and equipment.
• Oversee support of engineering functions. Will direct, provide guidance and support engineering technician.
• Coach Tests and trains other technicians.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's Degree - AS degree in Engineering Technology.
Experience
--3-5 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skill or Abilities
• Read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical procedures and specifications.
• Write business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
•Effectively present information and respond to questions from cross functional managers, as well as peers from other departments.
• Knowledge of the following software desirable: MS Office, MS Outlook (e-mail).
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the job, including the ability to set up and operate different machine tools such as drill press or band saw.
• Ability to use measuring devices such as calipers, etc.
• Ability to demonstrate effective hand and eye coordination at an acceptable level of proficiency.
• Organizational skills helpful.
